I've been using CareFor to care for my mother, who has dementia, for a while now. As her disease progressed, their involvement has progressed, and I wouldn't trust her care to anyone else. The staffing team has done a tremendous job putting my mother's care team together (they are all amazing), and when she declined significantly last Christmas and needed additional caregivers and hospice care, they didn't miss a step getting everything and everyone in place. Navigating the care of an aging parent can be incredibly complicated and overwhelming, and Sara has been an invaluable source of expertise, compassion, support, and calm through every stage of this process. As an only child without other family support beyond my incredibly supportive husband, I have had to navigate a tremendous number of decisions and transitions on my dad’s behalf. Having Sara in our corner has made what at times could have felt impossible feel manageable. Our work with Sara began while my dad was still living independently in his home, and her support has evolved right alongside his needs. She has been available through hospitalizations to help me understand what questions to ask and what to pay attention to based on her knowledge of his history. She helped us navigate a rehabilitation stay following a hospitalization and then the transition into senior living. When it became clear that we needed to consider a different living arrangement, she helped me understand the various levels of care and types of licensure, identify appropriate options, and vet communities using both her professional expertise and her understanding of my dad as a person. Her help has extended far beyond medical care. She connected us with a company specializing in senior moves that was able to move my dad and ultimately help us clear out his home. She has helped me think through resources, logistics, care decisions, and next steps as circumstances have changed. Just as importantly, she has always been flexible and willing to meet us where we are rather than approaching our situation with a one-size-fits-all solution. What makes Sara so exceptional is the combination of her expertise and her humanity. She is extraordinarily knowledgeable and professional, but she is also compassionate, responsive, practical, and genuinely invested in understanding the person and family she is working with. She takes the time to understand not only care needs, but also family dynamics, available resources, priorities, and what is realistically manageable. I have never felt like we were simply another case she was managing. There is also something incredibly valuable about having an experienced professional supporting the family member who is trying to coordinate everything. Even with the tremendous support of my husband, much of the responsibility for navigating my dad’s care has necessarily fallen to me as his only child. I have been able to move through each stage knowing that I have someone I trust to call when I do not know what to do next, what questions I should be asking, or whether I am overlooking something important. That kind of support and peace of mind is more invaluable than I can adequately express. My dad is now settled in senior living and doing well, but our relationship with Sara and CareFor is not ending there. We plan to continue working with her because having her expertise and collaboration as his needs evolve gives me tremendous peace of mind and helps me feel confident that we can continue advocating for the best possible care and quality of life for him. If you are trying to navigate care for an aging parent or loved one and feel overwhelmed by how many decisions, systems, transitions, and unknowns are involved, I cannot recommend CareFor enough. And I especially cannot recommend Sara highly enough. Diane IresonI recommend CAREFOR very highly and especially the representative with whom we worked, Sara Haddock. It had been our intention to reach out to CAREFOR for some time. Seeing my children deal with the sharp decline in their father’s ( my ex-husband’s) abilities after a fall related to his Parkinson’s diagnosis and dementia moved us to action. Along with his wife, they faced several very difficult and painful decisions about his care. They tried to guess at what he would want if he could articulate his wishes. Sara came to our apartment and asked good questions to move ahead our thinking about our own decline and demise someday. We are very fortunate to be of sound body and mind now. The care givers seem to genuinely care about my mother, which is essential to me as I do not live near by. Communications are always open, any time of the day or night. They are always open to suggestions for improved care; they developed a log system for the care givers to keep track of certain things in my mother’s daily routine, to help me understand what’s happening day to day. CareFor is a lifesaver. I mean that literally. About three years ago, I became concerned about my brother, who lived by himself, and would not let me in his house. I called CareFor for assistance. A caregiver went to see him, visited with him and stayed in touch by weekly visits. After six months or a year, she saw him one day and was concerned enough to stop by the next day. My brother did not come to the door. She called for an ambulance and he was rushed to the hospital. If she had not done that follow up, my brother would not be alive today.
